No Cost Ways to Help DFW Shih Tzu Rescue's Homeless Dogs
Submitted by cbarekman on Fri, 07/30/2010 - 00:46A big THANK YOU to all who have linked their Kroger and Tom Thumb/Randall's rewards cards to DFW Tzus and More Rescue! We recently received a very nice donation check from Kroger for the 2009-2010 year. Your Kroger purchases really do make a difference. YOU can help DFW Tzus and More Rescue dogs each time you use your Kroger or Tom Thumb cards!! You have to re-link your Kroger card each year to DFW Tzus and it is time to do that NOW.
Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apsos Can't Take the Heat
Submitted by cbarekman on Tue, 07/13/2010 - 21:40Please keep in mind that our little furbabies with the shorter muzzles can't tolerate our extreme summer heat. They should be walked early or late in the day, and shouldn't be left outside in the heat alone. Be sure to have fresh cool water available at all times in the house and patio area, and carry a water bottle on walks. Don't let them walk on asphault or cement during the heat of the day, as their paws can be burned. Shih Tzu, Lhasas, and our other furry mixes are meant to be indoor dogs and love the air conditioning during the summer. If you turn your air conditioning thermostat up a little when you go to work, it is a good idea to leave fans on for a cooling effect.
DFW Metroplex Animal Shelters Overflowing!!!
Submitted by cbarekman on Tue, 07/06/2010 - 00:08Despite several cities such as Arlington and Irving having new larger animal shelters, they are all over-full and having to euthanize many dogs! Three area shelters were so full this week, they couldn't wait for us to find a transporter. We had shelters actually deliver the dogs to our vet clinic, which is very unusual. They delivered a Lhasa Apso, 2 Shih Tzu, and 2 Shihpoos...YES,,,5 dogs in one day. We have had to close intake again due to lack of foster space. This leaves many dogs waiting in area shelters. If you can foster, PLEASE complete a volunteer application now. WE NEED YOU! Even if it is just for the summer or a few weeks, you can help save a life!

DFWTAMR Mourns One of Our Own
Submitted by cbarekman on Sat, 06/05/2010 - 00:43We lost a volunteer, a foster Dad, and a good friend on Wednesday. Don Yant was all of those things and more to our group. He was a quiet man who loved dogs, especially Shih Tzu, and was willing to work with some of our more difficult dogs and turn them around. He adopted two of them, and found great homes for the rest. He was a perfect example of a person who truly loved dogs.
A Productive Weekend for Shih Tzu Rescue
Submitted by cbarekman on Sun, 05/23/2010 - 21:50The Tzu gang at DFWTAMR was busy volunteering for worthy causes over the weekend. DFW Tzus had a good turn out for the Arthritis walk on Saturday, with Arthritis Walk Dog Hero, Brett Favre, and Dog Walk Chairman Samantha C., leading the way. We had a productive Tzu Review Sunday with some good applicants. Fingers and paws crossed for adoptions in the upcoming week. Mike B. also delivered a pick-up truck load of pet food to HSNT on Sunday afternoon. The food was donated by our generous volunteers and friends. A heartfelt THANKS to all who made food and cash donations to help the homeless pets at HSNT!
